Currumbin Rhythm was founded by Donovan and Kelly Lee, a dynamic husband-and-wife team with a shared passion for the arts. Together with their young daughter, they bring a warm and welcoming, family-oriented atmosphere to the school.

About Donovan
Donovan Lee is a professional drummer with an extensive career in the music industry. He is the current Drum Lecturer at Southern Cross University and has 12 years of teaching experience at TAFE QLD. Donovan is also an active performer, collaborating with various bands and sharing his passion for rhythm with audiences across the region. His real-world experience and dedication to education make him an inspiring mentor for students of all skill levels.

About Kelly
Kelly Lee brings a rich background in business and creativity. With experience running her own business and managing operations for another company, she understands the importance of collaboration and personal growth. Her time as an ex-dancer performing across Europe, infuses Currumbin Rhythm with a unique artistic perspective. Passionate about nurturing both musical talent and personal development, Kelly creates a supportive and inspiring environment for students to thrive.

At Currumbin Rhythm, our teaching team consists of highly qualified University graduates who are not only skilled musicians but also active performers. Our instructors are professionals actively working in the music industry, recording, releasing, and performing their own music. This ensures they bring real-world insights and creativity to every lesson.

Each instructor also holds up-to-date Working with Children checks, ensuring a safe and professional learning environment for students.

Mathew Bell

Guitar & Bass

Mathew Bell is a passionate guitarist, bassist, and songwriter with a deep love for music that started at just 10 years old. Initially drawn to the drums, his musical journey shifted when his dad gifted him a real guitar instead of Guitar Hero, setting him on a path of creativity and performance that continues to this day.

After earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Contemporary Music (Songwriting/Production) in 2022, Mathew hit the road, touring across Australia and gracing stages at some of the country’s biggest festivals, including Spilt Milk, Heaps Good, Bigsound, and SXSW Sydney.

At Currumbin Rhythm, Mathew brings his wealth of experience to students, guiding them from beginner to intermediate levels. His lessons go beyond mastering guitar and bass, offering insights into songwriting, stagecraft, and the confidence needed to make music a lifelong passion.

Tegan Clark

Vocals, Keys & Guitar

Tegan Clark is a passionate vocalist and musician with years of performance experience across the Gold Coast and Brisbane. With over seven years behind the mic and at the keys, she has recently completed her Bachelor of Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University, refining her skills as both a performer and educator.

Tegan loves helping students build confidence, develop their unique sound, and explore their passion for music in a supportive and inspiring environment. Whether it’s finding your voice, mastering technique, or stepping onto the stage, she’s here to guide the way!

Jackie Anne

Piano, Guitar & Lever Harp

Jackie is a versatile musician and passionate educator, teaching piano, guitar, and lever harp to students of all ages. With a love for all styles of music, she creates a welcoming space where students can explore their musical interests and develop their skills.

Beyond technique, Jackie encourages creativity—guiding students in composing their own original music and finding their unique voice. Whether it’s mastering a favourite song or crafting something entirely new, she’s here to inspire and support every step of the way.

Noah

Drums

Noah has been dedicated to the drums for nearly a decade, bringing a deep passion for rhythm, feel, and creativity to every performance. With a Diploma of Music Performance already under his belt, he is currently furthering his studies with a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University.

A seasoned performer, Noah has honed his craft through musicals, weddings, and live events, gaining invaluable experience across a range of musical settings. Now, he’s excited to share his knowledge and inspire the next generation of drummers—helping them develop their skills, confidence, and musicality behind the kit.

Alisha Todd

Vocals & Beginner Guitar, Keys

Alisha Todd has been immersed in music since her early teens, carving out a career that spans over 15 years of performing, recording, and songwriting. A graduate of Southern Cross University with a Bachelor of Contemporary Music, Alisha’s passion for music flows through every facet of her life—whether she's teaching, writing and releasing music under her own name and projects (Alisha Todd, GENIIE BOY, Volcanic Lovers), or captivating audiences on stage.

Her versatility shines through her work in theatre productions with Brisbane’s The Little Red Company (Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves, Christmas Actually), as well as her performances at weddings and events as both a musician and DJ.

Currently, Alisha is expanding her expertise with a Graduate Diploma in Autism Studies, with a Master of Music Therapy on the horizon. As an independent artist who seamlessly bridges the worlds of original music, corporate entertainment, and theatre, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her students—helping them find their own unique voice in music.

Donovan Lee

Drums

Donovan Lee has been immersed in drumming since the age of 8, starting lessons at 10 and turning his passion into a lifelong pursuit of rhythm and teaching. With a strong academic background, Donovan studied at TAFE and Southern Cross University (SCU), graduating with honours.

For over 12 years, Donovan has been a dedicated drum teacher at TAFE Queensland and has spent 5 years teaching at SCU, working with students across all skill levels—from kids learning their first drum beats to seasoned professionals pursuing higher education.

An accomplished performer, Donovan has played in dozens of bands, regularly recording, touring, and releasing music. His experience spans performances all over Australia and internationally, and he continues to play with multiple bands on a regular basis.

At Currumbin Rhythm, Donovan brings his wealth of knowledge and real-world experience to every lesson, inspiring students of all ages and abilities to connect with their creativity, develop strong technical foundations, and thrive as musicians.
